Diane Hathcoat is a contemporary mixed-media artist living and working in the Golden State. In spite of her locale, or perhaps because of it, her work is not all sunshine and bliss but rather an eyes-wide-open approach to evaluating the world around her. Part pure beauty, part caustic critique, the purpose of her artistic expression not only provides the personal space for mental processing but calls greater attention to the things in our society that require work. Acknowledgement and work.
Diane began her career in marketing. Storytelling is integral to her DNA. Creating community through language and creative expression is the thread that weaves throughout her life.
With additional degrees in interior architecture and studio art, Diane’s work celebrates the third dimension. Integrating disparate matter – industrial hardware, recycled materials, found objects, as well as natural resources – the tools of her artistry are more Black & Decker than Windsor & Newton, though traditional artistic mediums do have their place.
Many of her pieces require of her both exploration and engineering. A life-long learner, Diane dives head-first into marshaling the skills necessary to realize her vision, whether it is woodworking, welding, or working with concrete. Inspiration & iteration continually play on repeat.
